Cybersecurity: From Incident Fixing to Business Resilience

Cybersecurity is often treated as an IT problem: detect an issue, fix it, move on.

But in manufacturing, one security weakness can disrupt operations, production, customer commitments and business continuity. The real shift is from reactive protection to proactive resilience.

Example: A manufacturing plant repeatedly faces endpoint or network-related security incidents. IT keeps restoring systems and closing tickets, but the same pattern returns. Instead of repeatedly “fixing the machine,” leadership steps back to assess critical assets, identify root causes, prioritize risks and strengthen controls.

3 Key Learnings

  1. Repeated incidents are often symptoms of a deeper capability gap.
  2. Cybersecurity priorities should follow business criticality, not simply the number of alerts.
  3. Sustainable security requires People + Process + Technology working together.

Action Points

  1. Assess — Identify critical IT/OT assets, dependencies and major cyber risks.
  2. Prioritize — Focus investment on risks that can materially affect production, revenue, safety or customer trust.
  3. Act & Monitor — Build a practical roadmap, strengthen controls and continuously measure improvement.

My Perspective: With 25+ years across IT, enterprise technology, manufacturing, digital transformation and cybersecurity, I have seen how technology decisions become business decisions very quickly.

My Practical Take: Don’t measure cybersecurity only by how quickly you fix incidents. Measure how effectively you reduce recurrence and protect business continuity.

Connect / Knowledge Sharing: Every organization has a different starting point. If this resonates with your environment, let’s exchange perspectives and explore what could work.
